Judy Strite

I am really excited to introduce you to Judy Strite, and to show you her second exhibition in the Guest Gallery. Judy, from Calgary, Canada, started doing needlepoint six years ago. One of her special areas of design interest was a series of 'International Faces'.

Judy writes:

"In my designs, I try and use very few colors. Like black and white photos, this shifts the focus towards the more textural aspects of the piece, which is a key element in these faces. My first attempt at an Indian face was "Walking Buffalo", below. I spent more time changing colors and rethreading needles than I did stitching!"

Walking Baffalo

"When I began needlepoint it was quickly obvious that there weren't many projects available in my area that I wanted to spend the time on, so I started buying books and designing my own. I've long been involved with computers, albeit in a business environment, so it was natural that I start using computers in my designing".

Sorrow

"Sorrow"

This haunting portrait was inspired by a Sunday newspaper article that Judy read on her way home from overseas.

"This is the Westmacott Athlete from a photo I took in the British Museum in London. It was the one of my first faces and is my son's favorite. I love the texture of his marble curls."

Judy has a brilliant website called Infostitch which provides you with needlepoint specific information - what designs are available and where to find them, book reviews, magazine info and much more. Judy said that she could really have used a site like this when she started. It is also a place to display her own work and talk about whatever strikes her fancy. Her site is an excellent resource, so be ready to spend some time exploring it.Visit www.infostitch.com
