Marnie's forte is to continuously discover new and innovative
techniques that combine many facets of needleart. Her students
enjoy her enthusiastic sharing of these years of seasoned
experience. Join her sometime.
Her favorite word is art. View these beautiful varied designs and
see what you think!
Butterfly Collage
The combination of an impressionistic background on which
realistic forms are then embroidered creates a piece of needleart
that keeps the attention of the viewer.
The transfer painted background, the layering of Japanese paper
and the addition of copper gilding are the beginning of the piece
of art.
The embroidery that rests on this enhanced background makes it
one of my favorite creations. Shading, what a joy! Color,
another happiness.
How Does Your Garden Gro?
Again, one of my favorite classes to teach. These are two of my
gardens and you should see the ones that my students have created.
Each background is painted individually which allows the open
space to enhance the chosen stitched areas.
As I look at these -- I want to do another!
Aurora Borealis Revisited
This has been one of my most popular designs. It was created
as the cover of Needlepoint Now in 2001 and has gone on since
then as a desired piece to stitch.
It has thirty-three canvas patterns, over seventy five different
color combinations, silks, cottons, overydyes, metallics and
beads, worked on cream congress cloth.
Balance, texture, color and thread use-- it is just plain fun

Fleur de Lis
Everyone loves lilies - all shapes and colours. This has one more element beyond the sophisticated shading, glimmer organdy is placed on top of the soft blue congress cloth. This forms two layers over which the iris is stitched. This added organdy allows the stitches to loft and form exquisite detail.
View the shading. The gentle and bold colour use. The open stitched leaves that allow the stitch used to tell it's story. Think about all the different colours that can be used to create another iris.
